Understory Lanternfish
Photolux subumbra
Twilight11 cm · Schooling · descending
Field record
It keeps to the lightless floor of the twilight water, well below where any surface glow still reaches, in loose schools that flare their photophores only when something bigger moves through them first. I never once found it in the brighter shallows above — whatever it's avoiding up there, it isn't me.
Marginal note: “never rises into the brighter water above”
Habitat

Depth range600–1,300 m
DiscoveryFound only in full darkness, well below where sunlight reaches — real depth, no lamp of your own to help you spot it first.
Catching it
A Twilight-tier catch needs at least a Fine Mesh Net— anything under that rating can never hold it, whatever the throw. Bought at the Quartermaster’s counter for 90 crystals. A held net inks this entry for good and pays its ledger bonus on the spot.
