Coldcurrent Anchor Crab

Glaciopagurus tenax

Midnight11 cm carapace · Anchored · gripping

Field record

It wedges itself into cracks in the substrate and grips with a strength that seems disproportionate to its size, bracing against a current strong enough to drag loose stone past it. Debris collects against its shell the way it would against a fixed rock, and it held that same position for the whole eleven minutes I watched it, never once adjusting its grip.

Marginal note:current sweeps everything past it, it never lets go

DiscoveryNo special condition — found simply by piloting close enough to identify it.

Catching it

A Midnight-tier catch needs at least a Braided Net— anything under that rating can never hold it, whatever the throw. Bought at the Quartermaster’s counter for 300 crystals. A held net inks this entry for good and pays its ledger bonus on the spot.
