Each one is nearly transparent, so what the lamp actually finds is never a fish but the collective shape of a few hundred of them turning together. The whole shoal changed direction the instant my drone's wake reached its edge, well before the light itself had crossed half the school, as if the water carried the message hand to hand.

Catching it
