Inside its bell it seems to carry a swallow of darker water, a patch a full shade dimmer than the twilight around it, as if the animal never let go of whatever depth it was born at. The patch doesn't mix with the water flushing through the bell on each pulse; it just rotates, slow and separate, like a second animal riding inside the first.

Catching it
