Voidmantle Squid

Its mantle carries slow bands of color that ripple across the skin like a private signal meant for another squid somewhere past the lamp's reach. Every pattern I have caught on camera has cut to black within a second of the light finding it, so I only ever see the very end of a sentence that was never meant for me.

Catching it

A Midnight-tier catch needs at least a Braided Net— anything under that rating can never hold it, whatever the throw. Bought at the Quartermaster’s counter for 300 crystals. A held net inks this entry for good and pays its ledger bonus on the spot.
