Sable Kite Ray
Milvus tenebris
Field record
The ray is all long black wings and a trailing filament, cruising just beneath the survey line until a lamp finds it. Then it banks on a single wingtip with no visible effort and glides out of the beam, too fast and too quiet to follow by eye. The survey crew calls it a kite because it seems tethered to a current nobody else can feel.
Habitat
Catching it
A Abyssal-tier catch needs at least a Heavy-Gauge Net— anything under that rating can never hold it, whatever the throw. Bought at the Quartermaster’s counter for 850 crystals. A held net inks this entry for good and pays its ledger bonus on the spot.
