Trench Wire Eel
Filum incognitum
Abyssalabout 70 cm (sonar estimate) · Threading · unconfirmed
Field record
No dive log of mine has reached this water — everything I have comes secondhand, from a sonar return threaded like a single loose wire along the old survey charts. Whoever logged it first called it a hazard to the cable, not an animal, and only revised the entry after the wire moved.
Marginal note: “logged as a hazard before anyone called it alive”
Habitat
ZoneThe Lower Dark
Depth range2,100–2,800 m
DiscoveryNo special condition — found simply by piloting close enough to identify it.
Catching it
A Abyssal-tier catch needs at least a Heavy-Gauge Net— anything under that rating can never hold it, whatever the throw. Bought at the Quartermaster’s counter for 850 crystals. A held net inks this entry for good and pays its ledger bonus on the spot.
